COMMON NAME

Standardized: lemon thyme

BOTANICAL NAME

Thymus x citriodorus (Pers.) Schreb. Ex Schweigg. & Korte
Plant Family: Lamiaceae

OVERVIEW

An aromatic herb in the mint family, lemon thyme looks and grows like English thyme, but that is where the similarities cease. As its name implies, this herb definitely smells and tastes like lemon. It can be used in any recipe calling for lemon juice, lemon zest, or lemon flavoring, and it is a great replacement for English thyme when you desire citrus undertones in your dish. Lemon thyme is an excellent herb to use in marinades for light proteins. Lemon thyme is also used therapeutically, and is usually made into a tea or a tincture if this is the desired use.

TYPICAL PREPARATIONS

Dried leaf added as a culinary spice, steeped as an herbaceous tea, or tinctured.
